Warm Days Ahead!

Hello fishermen everywhere!
Fishing activity was minimal the past 4 days in Lakes Country. The fish were biting, but the weather kept a lot of folks off the water. The water cooled a lot last week. Most lakes saw a 10 degree reduction in water temps!!ย Wow, thatโs a BIG deal when trying to unravel fishing patterns!
Fish reversed themselves during the cool down. Instead of fish moving away from eating minnowsโtransitioning into worms and leeches on some lakes — they instead would only accept minnows. The cooler water was confusing and difficult to deal with. However, things are turning around for the week to come. Nice weather is on itโs way and along with that comes the promise of moving forward.
Crappies should complete their spawn and sunfish should begin spawning on smaller lakes across the county. Walleye and northern will be entering pre-summer patterns, so keep you eye out! Be prepared forย bait changes, lure color changes, depth pattern changes, and plain ole good consistent fishing.ย Be sure to bring a lot of bait along, because walleye will want different options at different times in allย spots and atย varying depths. Working through spring transition periods areย a lot of workโstay with it and good fishing will be your reward.
Good luck fishing this week in Otter Tail Lakes Country!ย Be sure to check your boat and equipment for weeds and critters and drain the water from your live wells when exiting lakes and traveling around the countyโhelp stop the spread of invasive species.ย We all appreciate it!!
