Hot Fishing
By Randin Olson of Lock Jaw Guide Service
The bite remains strong in lakes country. We are warming up super fast! I’m seeing mid 70’s water temp and the fish are responding.
Right now there are a lot of patterns working on area lakes.ย The new weed growth isย attracting fish. Some fish are transitioning to summer haunts, while others are soaking up the sun in the shallows.
One thing I’ve found over the years is that when the weather is hot the fish like to move very shallow.ย 3-7ft is not out of the question.ย Pitching jigs,ย long lining crawlers or pulling cranks can all work. Don’t be afraid of thinking outside the box.ย
Running bottom bouncers and lindy rigs has been working well on fish in the 12-30ft range. With crawlers and/or leeches being my go to bait.ย Look for extended points off shoreline breaks and work them good.ย
Panfish have finished the spawn and are looking for fresh cabbage to find bugs and minnows. Pitching jigs or long lining have been best for me. If you find a big pod, don’t be afraid to pull out a slip bobber!
Summer cane early this year but the fishing came with it.ย Get on the water and make your own memories!ย
