There’s a housing boom happening in Battle Lake and new businesses are opening to match homeowner needs. Residential construction is driving a flurry of new restaurants, retail stores and service oriented business. On top of that, city voters recently approved a bond referendum for significant upgrades to their school, demonstrating the pride and confidence people have in their district. This is a community building on success.
Single-family dwellings are a hot commodity here. Three recently completed homes were immediately snapped up by buyers. Additional housing includes twin homes built by Hammers Construction and the 15-20 apartments for rent at the new Hatchery Row development. According to Val Martin, the Battle Lake clerk/treasurer, the projects moved forward with “several grants from MN Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), Otter Tail County Community Development Agency and USDA Rural Development.”
These homeowners have access to additional businesses for shopping and dining. Getting caffeinated and energized is a breeze with Perks Coffee based in Fergus Falls opening a Battle Lake branch along with Neverbetter Market + Wellness, Lakes Country on Main serving up favorites like bubble tea. Everyone is braking for their tasty shakes. And the foam isn’t only in your coffee cup. Suds on 78 – car wash is keeping vehicles looking sharp.
People, pets and their dwellings have star potential too. Chelsea Pacifica Boutique carries apparel for all ages as well as dogs. Their line of home decor will outfit kitchens, dens, and bedrooms. Create your own spa setting with their line of bath and beauty products. Lakes Lockeroom sells customized apparel, garments for Lakes Country events and gatherings.
Also new is Ice Box Fitness, promising to “help you become stronger” and offering cross fit training for all levels. Owners Kari and Robert Dorn, along with the other entrepreneurs in Battle Lake, are open for business.
