The Perfect Time To Make Memories On The Lake
Summer fishing is a family thing! It’s a great time to get everybody out—the water is warm, the air is perfect and the fish are biting! Build great memories on the lake.
Otter Tail Lakes country boasts of over 1,000 lakes and rivers! Nearly half of those waters are fishable and there are 134 public access points in the county (click here to view the MN DNR map of these access points). After a slightly “bumpy” spring, we’re having a very nice summer. The water temps are on the rebound and are average now. I’m seeing a lot of lake temps in the mid-70 degree range It’s a great water temp to swim and play in and it still feels refreshing. What do the fish think about warm summer water? They love it!
Now is the time of year when all species are “level.” All of the traumatic events of spring have finally been completed (i.e. spawn, bug hatches and weed growth). Now that the underwater world is set up—it’s essentially on cruise control. Once you discover a productive fishing pattern, the likely hood of that pattern sticking around is near 100%.
While all fish species are still inclined to shut off from time to time, they don’t shut off for long. I saw shut-offs last week that would slow fishing for 1 or 2 hours but then the fish were right back at it again.
Good luck fishing in Otter Tail Lakes Country this SUMMER. We’ve finally arrived and the fishing has followed suite.
Bring your sunscreen and a good pair of sunglasses. And remember when you’re done fishing or boating on one of the many Otter Tail County lakes, be sure to pull your drain plug, drain your live wells and check for weeds on your boat, motor and trailer—lets all help prevent the spread of aquatic invasive species!
