Fishing Report 5-11-2022
By Randin Olson, Lock Jaw Guide Service
It’s finally here!
Warm weather is finally upon us! The lakes are open and the fish are biting! While the opener is this weekend, you can get some Hooksets in before hand on some great panfish!
Crappies will be in the warmest water in the lake. It’s that easy! Find the warm water find the fish! Generally they will be in 10 ft or less and easily fooled by a small hair jig or tube jig. No bait needed! Use the clear water to your advantage and look before you fish. Often times the fish will be just under the surface.
Bluegills will be shallower than the crappies. Look in the 2-6ft range. Small hair jigs are my favorites. Set them under a bobber and give it small twitches on your way back. Don’t waste much time in any area, if they are there you will catch them.
As for this weekend, a jig and plastic will work great! Minnows will be hard to come by. Focus your efforts on shallow flats 10 ft or less and cover water till you find some fish. Don’t be afraid to find your own area, there will be allot of community spots filled with boats.
If you don’t have your stuff ready for this weekend, I suggest getting on it! Accesses will be busy this weekend so do your best to be ready to go when you arrive. Be safe and courteous this weekend and most of all have fun!
