Early July Fishing Report
By Randin Olson of Lock Jaw Guide Service
If you can’t tell by the weather, the summer heat is here. It’s time to cover water and fish aggressively. With most lake’s water temps being in the mid 70’s, fish are spread out and on the hunt for food.
I really like to start with cabbage beds this time of year. Long lining crawlers or leeches over and around the weeds will produce fish of all kinds right now. Bottom bouncers is another productive option as well.
It’s easy to get hung up on a spot right now especially if you’re marking fish. But if they aren’t biting, you need to move. It’s pretty simple right now, cover water catch fish. We have been getting fish in 5 to 30ft of water, so don’t get hung up on any one depth.
Panfish have been roaming mud flats and some are hanging out on the weed lines. Small jigs and plastics are my top producer.
With the warm water is the perfect time to get out! And if the fish won’t play you can always go for a swim!
