The dog days of Summer

Ahhh August. The dog days of summer as some would say. Stereotypically, this is one of the worst times of year to be fishing, especially for our beloved walleyes, but anglers continue to have success up here in Otter Tail Lakes Country.
Anglers who are finding walleyes are catching them by triggering reaction strikes. Jigging Raps, hair jigs and crankbaits have been go-tos. Fish have been found either in the weeds or on weedlines during recent trips to the lake. Fish these baits aggressively and the fish will bite out of irritation.
If these lures don’t intrigue you, you can use live bait rigs during low-light periods.
Bass fishing continues to be fantastic. Flipping jigs into pads and clumps of cane and bullrushes has been incredibly effective. If you want a fun bite, throw frogs over lily pads and enjoy topwater blowups and the fun of yanking fish out of thick weeds.
Crappie and bluegill fishing remains steady as well. Troll or fancast small jigs over cabbage beds to pick off big fish. They don’t call this area Panfish Paradise for nothing!
