Otter Tail County’s 150^th Anniversary Signature Kickoff Event Announced

The Otter Tail County Historical Society (OTCHS) and Otter Tail Lakes Country Association (OTLCA) are pleased to announce a signature event to kickoff the county’s 150th Anniversary.

2018 marks the 150th anniversary of Otter Tail County. According to OTCHS Executive Director, “This milestone provides an opportunity to reflect on our county’s past as well as celebrate our culture and future.” If the kickoff event is any indication, Otter Tail County is gearing up for one exciting sesquicentennial!

The kickoff event, Otter Tail Co.-ON ICE!, is a celebration of everything Otter Tail County has to offer…on ice!  Festivities will take place Feb 3rd & 4th, 2018 on Otter Tail Lake.  OTC-ON ICE! coincides with Super Bowl weekend and will include food, beverages, outdoor activities, and live music on Saturday.  On Sunday, this first-time event will culminate with the “world’s largest Super Bowl party…on ice.”

“Having the Super Bowl in Minnesota next year is a great opportunity for Otter Tail County,” said Nick Leonard, Otter Tail County Economic Development Director. In addition to national visibility, event organizers hope OTC-ON ICE! will bring economic infusion to area businesses during a historically slow time of year. VIP and general admission experiences are being coordinated and event organizers hope both locals and folks from around the region join in on this truly one-of-a-kind experience. “Not everyone can be in US Bank Stadium for the Super Bowl,” said Leonard. “Why not join us in Otter Tail County for Minnesota’s second biggest event that weekend.”

Event organizers are taking steps to ensure the event is safe and environmentally friendly. If the ice isn’t thick enough, the event will be held at nearby Thumper Pond Resort. Event organizers have also begun coordinating with the DNR, Sherriff’s Department and Otter Tail County Solid Waste. They have also begun preliminary conversations with Explore Minnesota Tourism and the Super Bowl Committee.
