Vibrant Artistry Surrounding Turtle Race Action

Turtle fans of all ages, from all places near and far, not can slow down to discover the 210 concrete turtles covering the wall in Turtle Park! Created by Sticks and Stones Décor by Cindee Lundin, the wall celebrates the turtles living in the more than 1,000 lakes surrounding the city of Perham. Completed in 2018, all 210 turtles were hand painted by Perham residents and people vacationing. It was a true collaboration of what art can do to bring people young and old together to beautify what was once a drab space.
After winning at the turtle races, take a stroll down the block to the Waves of Discovery Mural.
This piece, also designed by Cindee Lundin, was inspired by the artist’s love for growing up in Perham, the heart of the Minnesota lakes area. It was created with a medium of carved concrete with elements of agates, fossils, fused glass and mosaics. Its design is to encourage interaction and communications among viewers, both young and old, with over 50 items to seek and find. May you find something that sparks a memory or an emotion. As you discover Perham, take the time to enjoy the colors and the textures that surround you.
Stop by Perham Area Chamber of Commerce or visit WavesofDiscovery.com for a list of the 50 hidden items.
ENJOY THE INTERNATIONAL TURTLE RACES!
The International Turtle Races are held at 10:30 a.m. every Wednesday in June, July, and August at the City Hall Park in Perham.
The event attracts thousands of racers from all over the world each summer.
(That’s why it’s called the International Turtle Races). Volunteers are there to help with the turtles. You can use one of the turtles that are available, or bring along your own turtle to race! Just bring the fleet-footed critter in a bucket so it doesn’t get away and outrun you!
Registration begins at 10 a.m. and there is a $1 donation. Races last an hour or two, depending upon how many racers there are.
Don’t miss Turtle Fest (June 17-21) where we celebrate all things Turtle!
