Swimming along in Otter Tail Lakes Country
Bret Setterholm, Bret’s Guide Service
Fishing is getting really good right now, the cooler temps have made our ice condition hold on longer. With continued warm weather, look for fishing only to get better. So far getting on and off the ice has been easy, still vehicle traffic has been safe, however I would recommend ATV use or foot traffic.
Lakes have really been producing numbers of panfish. Look for fish being stacked up on most of those flats and transition areas. Deeper water that meets the flats, but areas such as inside turns have been the key. Focus on the 14ft-20ft range, with moving on top of the flats towards the evening hours.
Northland Doodle Bug, Forage Minnow jg have been a great lure tipped with either a minnow or waxie. The glow has been working the best. When fishing slows or the fish seem to be lookers, slow your presentation down. When all else fails, go to the bobber and dangle in their face.
Remember, open water is soon to be here. Get your open water gear out and ready for opener. Also, check out Ray Sports and Marine in Perham for the new line up of boats and pontoons!
