Springboard for the Arts now accepting applications for Hinge Arts Residency
Artists with “roots” in West Central MN
9-County Region encouraged to apply
From June 2018 through December 2018, Springboard for the Arts will welcome new resident artists to Hinge Arts at the Kirkbride, an artist residency program that invites artists to live on the campus of the Fergus Falls State Hospital.
As a way to explore a new model of urban rural-exchange and rural talent attraction, Springboard has launched a new “Homecoming” residency, which invites artists who grew up in West Central Minnesota (Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse and Wilkin counties), but now live elsewhere, to reconnect with their home region through their art. For Homecoming Residents, project funding of up to $1500 and a weekly living stipend of $100 is available.
“Home is a place of memories that shape who we are and who we have become. Our Homecoming residency invites artists to come home and share their talents and what they have learned while living away,” says Naomi Schliesman, Artist Development Director. “We hope that this opportunity for artists will reconnect them with their community, influence the region’s growth and inspire our youth.”
Hinge Arts also has a Career Development residency during which artists work on their own self-driven projects during their time in Fergus Falls. Hinge Arts was launched in March 2015. Two visiting artists reside in Fergus Falls at a time, living on the campus of the former Fergus Falls State Hospital in newly renovated apartment buildings owned by local developer, the Campus Development Group. Artists’ length of residencies varies from 2 weeks to 12 weeks. The program was recently featured in the Wall Street Journal and the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
Applications for residences taking place between July 2018 and December 2018 are currently being accepted until March 7, 2018. Artist eligibility reserved for US residents 18 years or older. Hinge Arts Residency guidelines and application can be downloaded at: https://springboardforthearts.
About Springboard for the Arts
Springboard for the Arts is an economic and community development organization for artists and by artists. Our work is about building stronger communities, neighborhoods, and economies, and we believe that artists are an important leverage point in that work. Springboard for the Arts’ mission is to cultivate vibrant communities by connecting artists with the skills, information, and services they need to make a living and a life. Our work is about creating communities and artists that have a reciprocal relationship, where artists are key contributors to community issues and are visible and valued for the impact they create. We do this work by creating simple, practical solutions and systems to support artists. Those programs support our goal to help create a local culture movement. Springboard for the Arts’ offices are based in Fergus Falls, and Lowertown Saint Paul, MN. More: http://springboardforthearts.o
