Rock & Roll AND Finnish Fiddling This Week in NYM
Paper Parlor Monday + Teho. Thursday
The Cultural Center in New York Mills is proud to present TWO opportunities for LIVE MUSIC this week in our intimate gallery listening-room space as we kick off our Summer Weeknight Concert Series!
Paper Parlor brings original rock & roll from Duluth on Monday, June 10 at 7:30 p.m., and Teho. brings fiddling from Finland on Thursday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m.
Paper Parlor is a traditional rock & roll band coming from the hills of Duluth, MN. This six person eclectic crew consists of Wilson Johnson on bass, Kirdan Wenger on lead vocals and guitar, Moriah Skye on lead guitar and vocals, Chad Hofland (originally from neighboring Perham, MN) on lead percussion, Allison Payonk on saxophone, and Zach Shears as the hardware and electronic set up specialist.
In their eighth year under the moniker Paper Parlor, the group is more dedicated than ever to share their passion for music and celebration with everyone they reach. Paper Parlor continues to expand upon their sound and energy, blending many genres into up-beat tunes for all to enjoy!
Tickets for Paper Parlor are a freewill offering, with a recommended price of $10. Give as you’re able! The band will also be selling their new EP at the concert for $10.
Teho. is a fiddling duo from Finland featuring Tero Hyvaluoma and Esko Järvelä, top-notch names in the Nordic folk music field and cross-over freelancers without genre boundaries. They have played together for years in various different bands and projects, including the long-running and popular Finnish band Frigg.
Teho. breaks musical boundaries while remaining strongly rooted in the tradition. Their music combines fluently Finnish traditional pelimanni fiddling, Norwegian halling, Swedish polska, bebop, western swing, and composed, contemporary folk music. Improvisation is also playing a big part in the duo’s sound.
Tickets for Teho. are $12 in advance or $15 at the door, students $5. Visit kulcher.org or call 218-385-3339 for advance tickets.
Both concerts begin at 7:30 p.m., with doors opening at 7:00 p.m. Complimentary snacks and a cash bar will be available. All are welcome! Come kick off our summer weeknight concert series this week in New York Mills!
