The North Country National Scenic Trail is the longest in the National Trails System, stretching 4,800 miles across eight states from North Dakota to Vermont, traversing forests and farmlands, remote terrain and nearby communities. Whether you’re looking to wander casually, hike a few miles, or spend a couple of weeks backpacking, a multitude of diverse landscapes and opportunities are waiting for you.
The North Central Minnesota Section of the trail goes right through Otter Tail, County! Otter Tail/Becker county line to US-2 in Grand Rapids.
This segment traverses North Central Minnesota’s glacially scoured landscape, which features many lakes, abundant wetlands and flat-to-rolling topography covered with a mix of coniferous and deciduous trees. It also features urban hiking on multi-use trails through the Cities of Cohasset and Grand Rapids. This section is lightly used and offers superb backpacking and day hiking opportunities without the crowds.
