Otter Tail County’s Lakes Come Alive
Bret Setterholm, bretsguideservice.com
Now that the soft water is upon us, it’s time to take advantage of the panfish bite before its overshadowed by the walleye bite. When the water temps increase, the lakes come alive.
Some of the key areas to look for during this time of year are some muddier bottom areas. Areas such as parts of the lake that hold bullrushes. These bullrushes hold fish, they also have a muddier bottom and warmer water. Ideal areas are these areas with deeper water near. These fish can move in and out of the depths as weather may change. This early time of year is when a person can really catch some larger fish. Another good way to find fish in these areas is sight fishing. Just cruising the shallows looking for fish in these shallow areas is a fast way to find fish.
Baits and lures you ask? Sometimes its just hard to beat the good ol slip bobber and minnow. Pitching this combo out can be a fast way to fish, plus you keep the bait in the zone longer.
This time of year is a good is also a good time just to get out and get all the bugs out of everything. Check your equipment, prepare yourself for the nice long soft water season we have all been waiting for. Stay safe out there!
