Fishing Report 4-13-2022

Any time now mother nature!
As the weather tries to decide what season it wants to give us, now is a great time to get things ready for open water. I promise it will come eventually. And if you can’t wait any longer we do have some opportunities available right now!
April has always been my time to prepare for the season. Re-spool reels, clean the boat, and organize tackle. I’m a firm believer that preparation puts more fish in my boat simply because I’m not wasting time looking for things or on the water. Most of us have a “junk” drawer in the boat and now it’s the time to get that cleaned up!
Fishing line isn’t everlasting, and if you’re in doubt about how long that line has been on the reel just replace it. Mono is notorious for having memory and should be replaced often. You can get more life from braid but as it starts to fray and discolor it’s time to replace.
There are fishing opportunities right now to be had. There are rough fish such as suckers and carp running in some rivers and can be caught from shore using a simple crawler rig. If you are still sitting on ice, I strongly urge you to use caution. Please, please don’t go alone and be very careful. Late ice is extremely dangerous.
Sooner or later we will have spring, as soon as Mother nature makes up her mind! Until then use this time to get ready for the summer!
