Fishing Opener Forecast
By Randin Olson of Lock Jaw Guide Service
The 2020 Opener is almost here! Things are looking good for the upcoming walleye opener. So what should you expect?
Water temps seem to be holding in the mid 50s which should have fish hanging out on shallow flats looking for food. Although the spawn will be done, eyeballs will hang out for a bit to feed on the spawning shinners. You should be able to focus on 12ft or less and look for areas of rubble or at the mouths of rivers. As always, jigs will work but I challenge you to try something new this year maybe a jerk-bait or plastics. You might just find a new favorite!
If your having a hard time with the walleyes, remember that the catch and release season for bass also opens this weekend. This can be a great way to fill in the time between the walleye bites. Not to mention all the panfish options here in #panfishparadise.
So step out of you’re comfort zone and try something new! We should have fish in the post spawn mode this year which can be tough at times, so get out there and explore!
