Burning through summer!
Weekly Fishing Report
By Randin Olson, Lock Jaw Guide Service
It’s August already and we are burning through summer! For me, August means hot temps and fast fishing. Depending on how you approach your outing you can do well or just get a sun tan.
Eyeballs are chasing food. With the high water temps, they need to eat more often and are always on the move. Fishing fast will be your best bet and how you will have the most luck. Cranks, jigs, bottom bouncers are my go to presentations this time of year. Don’t worry about one spot to much because you are better off focusing on getting the active fish and move on.
Crappies are hanging out in the weed beds and can be fooled with a 1 1/16 oz jig and a plastic. Troll or cast over the weeds and pick a part the weed bed.
Bass have been set up on the usual spots. Any shallow cover or deep weed lines will work. Jigs, spinner baits, and cranks are top producers.
Muskies are moving but be careful because hot water can kill these beautiful fish. Try to avoid chasing them when the water is over 75.
If you can keep moving you will find success. Don’t get hung up on any one spot and don’t be afraid to think outside the box and try new things!
