BEST OF OTC: Ice Cream Treats
While summer isn’t officially over, it sure feels like it. We hope you were able to soak in as much local flavor as possible over the past few months. We recently decided to try to find the best ICE CREAM TREAT in Otter Tail County and here’s what we found. Keep in mind, this isn’t an official contest, there are no winners of losers here, just a nice tidy list to help you #FindYourInnerOtter.
Granny’s Pantry – Battle Lake, MN
Battle Lake, MN is known as a great place to get great food, especially during the summer months. Locals and tourists alike flock to town to grab a bite or celebrate a special occasion. No trip to Battle Lake would be complete without a stop at Granny’s Pantry. They have all sorts of ice cream and oodles of sweet treats. The not-so-good news is they are only open until Labor Day Weekend. So if you didn’t make it out there yet, you’d better hurry. Or you can put it on your list for next summer.
Sweeties Ice Cream – Fergus Falls, MN
If you like homemade foods, you have to try Sweeties Ice Cream. This brand is available year round at Cafe 116 & Meadow Farm Foods in Fergus Falls, MN. It is also served at the Corner Store on Otter Tail Lake. Sweeties Ice Cream may just be unlike any ice cream you’ve enjoyed before. Owner Chelsey Beilhurtz believes in using locally sourced ingredients and made from scratch recipes. She describes their product as “organic dairy, small batch, artisanal ice cream.” If a flavor calls for roasted and salted nuts, Sweeties roasts and salts the nuts themselves. Their waffle cones are, you guessed it, made from scratch. Fan favorite flavors are; chocolate fudge, caramel latte and wild blueberry orange cheesecake.
Otter Coffee & Ice Cream – Vergas, MN
As autumn approaches, plenty of folks will be heading to the Northwest corner of Otter Tail County to take in the fall colors. Otter Coffee & Ice Cream in Vergas is a brand new store in the area and definitely worth a stop . It is the perfect place to start your day with hot cup of joe or enjoy a mid-day snack while doing a little shopping. They are open seven days a week, however, after Labor Day, they will be closing a little earlier than they did this summer. If you happen to be in the area on a Friday, be sure to check out the fresh bread and cookies from Fergus Falls bakery.
