Ice Fishing Report 1-1-2020
By Bret Setterholm- Fishing in the area has been really good, but being mobile has been the key to success. Even though the travel has been extremely difficult, the fishing has been good! The walleye bite has been good on local lakes like OtterTail. Fish have been located in that 26-32 ft., lots of numbers for fish however smaller. The bigger fish seem to be more spread out and not congregated together. Move along the break lines looking for points and inside turns. Catch a few of those larger fish and move down the break a little farther. Rapala jigging raps, Tingler spoon, and jigs tipped with minnow heads. Most of the area lakes have a consistent evening bite, fish some of those fall favorites spots. Keep moving, punch holes, fresh bait, you will for sure to put a lot of fillets in your pan! Be safe out there, we are still finding 8 inches of ice in some areas. Slush has also been a problem, this just weakens the ice over time. We need a long stretch of cold weather. But, even with cold temps it’s doubtful that the ice will become better. We have over a foot of snow on top, which insulates the top of the ice. We will need some extremely cold temps to get the ice we need for vehicle travel. Be safe and still check ice!
