West Central Initiative Seeks Candidates for its Board of Directors
Volunteer your time to benefit the people and places of west central Minnesota
West Central Initiative, a regional community foundation and an economic development organization, is seeking candidates from across the region to join its Board of Directors. The organization serves the counties of Becker, Clay, Douglas, Grant, Otter Tail, Pope, Stevens, Traverse, and Wilkin and a portion of White Earth Nation. Since 1986, West Central Initiative has provided more than $55 million in loans and $65 million in grants to businesses and organizations.
The Board of Directors supports and guides the organization as it works to fulfill its mission: serving to improve west central Minnesota through funding, programs, and technical assistance. The Board of Directors helps to determine the organization’s strategic plan, ensure fiscal responsibility, evaluate performance, and establish policies for effective organizational management
“Although not a requirement, we’re particularly interested in board members from Grant, Otter Tail, and Traverse Counties and/or who specialize in finance, climate-related work, and equity,” said West Central Initiative President Anna Wasescha.
Board members volunteer their time, roughly 3 to 8 hours per month. Although much of the work can be done remotely, board members make every effort to attend at least four meetings in person per year, typically at the West Central Initiative headquarters in Fergus Falls.

The deadline to express interest or nominate is Friday, May 13. The organization will review submissions and conduct interviews in late May and early June.
“The future we want is one where everyone belongs and where every community is vibrant and welcoming,” said Wasescha. “If that future resonates with you, we should talk.”
