We Are Water MN interactive exhibit opens August 18
We Are Water MN opens in Otter Tail County from August 18 through October 10 at the Fergus Falls Public Library during regular library hours. Otter Tail County has connected with individuals interested in sharing their water stories and the public is invited to participate in sharing their stories too. The committee has spent the last several months learning from others, connecting and listening, and launching several events. Attend the exhibit to connect, engage and learn from each other about Minnesotans’ relationships with water.
Who should attend?
We invite all ages to participate in the exhibit. Our goal in hosting the event for people in Otter Tail County is to have an opportunity to share the important relationships they have with water, create awareness about local water issues and increase education about water in Minnesota and particularly in Otter Tail County.
What is in the exhibit?
The exhibit features statewide and local information about Minnesota’s position as the headwaters of three major basins; the sacredness of water to Minnesota’s first peoples, the Dakota and Ojibwe; land changes over time; the current stresses on water; steps needed to make progress; and stories about the meaning and use of water by local people. Local content is added through audio, maps, water quality information, and inspirational stories from people who live in Otter Tail County.
Why attend?
The free exhibit is interactive. We Are Water MN in Otter Tail County and the traveling exhibit share messages about water in Minnesota. The committee has built local networks of people who protect and affect water. The exhibit will highlight these connections. Students are encouraged to attend to enhance their learning of local water. Learn more about future events that build peoples’ relationships with and responsibilities to water.
