Scooping Up Happiness in Fergus Falls

Scooping Up Happiness in Fergus Falls cream shop. He and his wife, Anne Frustol, saw their dream realized when they opened Uncle Eddie’s ice cream parlor in downtown Fergus Falls.
Anne Frustol grew up in New York but attended Hillcrest Lutheran Academy in Fergus Falls. She had such a good experience that she and her husband sent their two children to Hillcrest before moving to town themselves in 2012. Their extended families moved here from the east coast, too.
“We moved here, and we just loved it,” Anne Frustol said. “We fell in love with Fergus Falls.”
Anne works full time as a public health nurse with Otter Tail County, and her husband owns Precise Carpentry, a local construction company. Then they opened Uncle Eddie’s. The name was inspired in honor of Anne’s father, Eddie. “It gave a more personal feel for the shop, and our hope is that all who enter feel like family,” Anne Frustol said.
The Frustols renovated the building at 217 W. Lincoln Ave. before opening the shop May 29, 2020. Uncle Eddie’s features 40 flavors of premium hard ice cream, cake and sugar cones, dishes, and fresh waffle cones and waffle bowls made daily.
They also offer vegan, dairy-free and lactose-free ice cream options, along with gluten-free cones. Besides ice cream and toppings, the shop sells Duluth coffee, gourmet hot teas, floats and “pup scoops” for dogs. Customers can enjoy their ice cream either inside or at seven outdoor picnic tables.
Uncle Eddie’s opens for the season in April with daily hours from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. When they’re closed over the winter, Uncle Eddie’s sell pints of ice cream monthly that people can take home to their freezers. Besides the shop, customers can rent an Uncle Eddie’s ice cream cart with pre-dished ice cream for their special events.
The community support for the shop is phenomenal, Anne Frustol said. “Our whole goal was just to have a place where people could gather and congregate,” Anne Frustol said. “That’s what I love seeing.”
