Join the talented, engaged and inclusive workforce dedicated to creating a better Minnesota.**Job Summary**This position leads and is responsible for development and analysis of scientific research projects including **develop and conduct a research program to support greenhouse gas calculation methodologies of the agency and other state agencies.** This position will lead and coordinate scientific research efforts around GHG emission calculations, GHG data, applying data science principles to gather and compile information while developing, maintaining, and managing data in the MPCA’s GHG Information System. The position will lead and participate on teams of technical staff from across the MPCA, state enterprise, region, and nation to develop methodologies, identify and improve data sources, and develop and use analytical tools and models. This position informs strategies to assess the effectiveness in meeting GHG Next Generation Energy Act goals and assists the air climate section in identifying policy relevant opportunities through the development and deployment of data analysis tools, statistical analyses, and data visualizations to inform and gain knowledge. This position identifies problem areas and recommends actions to address those concerns.**Minimum Qualifications**Master’s degree in hydrology, geology, soil science, chemistry, climatology, meteorology, ecology, forestry, environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering or related degree and two (2) years of professional experience in greenhouse gas accounting, conducting data research and analysis, analyzing and interpreting data and scientific research, and preparing research or large data sets for reporting to both technical and general audiences.ORA Bachelor’s degree in hydrology, geology, soil science, chemistry, climatology, meteorology, ecology, forestry, environmental engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering or related degree and three (3) years of professional experience in greenhouse gas accounting, conducting data research and analysis, analyzing and interpreting data and scientific research, and preparing research or large data sets for reporting to both technical and general audiences.Must have strong project management and communication skills and the ability to communicate technical information effectively to a variety of audiences with varying technical knowledge.The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency will not sponsor applicants for work visas. Although a sedentary job is defined as one which involves sitting, a certain amount of walking and standing is often necessary in carrying out job duties.**Additional Requirements**Position duties may require travel but driving is not a minimum qualification or essential function of this position.
