Fishing report 8-5-21
by garett svir of slab seeker guide service
The cooler days have made long days in the boat a little easier lately but I hate to say it because it signals the end of summer is drawing near.
crappie
Fish are still set up in those summer patterns. I’ve been playing with some new baits from Europe lately from a company called Lucky John USA and having some pretty incredible success with these designs. We’ve spending a lot of time trolling crappies on top of the weeds and on the weed edges in 7-10 feet of water. A small jig and plastic bait that provides a lot of action is all that is needed.
walleye
Lots of walleyes in the weeds as well, so if you strike out on main lake structure don’t be afraid to try fishing the weed edges. Bigger pike have moved deep for cooler more comfortable water but plenty of small pike shallow to keep you occupied.
bass
Look to matted vegetation for largemouth bass. This is my favorite time of year to throw a frog around lilly pads. Bigger baits will often help this time of year as well. Their metabolism is at an all time high so don’t be afraid to throw something big.
Bluegills
The bigger bluegills have also vacated the shallows and are occupying main lake structure. Look to humps, points and the deepest cabbage you can find on your graph. These fish act differently than their smaller counterparts
I’ve got some sporadic dates left in August if you are looking to fish big crappies or bluegills let me know. Garett – The Slab Seeker http://www.slabseekerfishing.com
