The not-so-good news is summer is coming to an end. The good news is there are tons of ways to find fall fun in Otter Tail County, MN. While the season may be short, it can be spectacular. Here are some ways you can Find Your Inner Otter come autumn.
Take a Road Trip
One of our favorite things to do in the fall is simply drive around Otter Tail County to take in the fall foliage. The Otter Trail Scenic Byway is 150 miles of discovery traversing through the rolling hills, diverse scenery and quaint communities. There are special designated byway sites along the route to give you a more immersive experience. You can take a selfie with one of the many iconic statues or just get out to stretch your legs. Be sure to keep an eye out for our new interpretive signs and learn even more by engaging with the Talking Trail.
Explore a Corn Maze
Few things say “fall” like wandering through a corn maze. We are super excited to be partnering with Otter Berry Farms this year to bring you the Find Your Inner Otter corn maze. Otter Berry Farm is located just north of Rush Lake between New York Mills & Perham. They do a great job of creating festive fall fun for everyone.
Shop Local
Throughout Otter Tail County’s quaint communities you will encounter a variety of shopping experiences. Each store is unique and features seasonal home decor, gifts, jewelry and more. Whether you are looking for that perfect lake wear themed hooded sweatshirt to wear around a chilly evening campfire or you need a fresh fall wardrobe, our local merchants are willing and able to help you find what you are looking for. Hit the Trails
Fall is a great time to hit the trails. The air is crisp, the leaves are changing colors and if you time it right, there aren’t as many bugs. Otter Tail County has some of the best hiking and biking opportunities in the upper midwest. Maplewood State Park and Glendalough State Park offer wide open public spaces to go outside and play. If you are into biking, we recommend Glendalough. Galloping Goose offers equipment rentals right there inside the park. You can also bike to the City of Battle lake via the Glenalough Trail. Fishing & Hunting
With over 1,000 lakes in Otter Tail County we can’t help but recommend the fishing, and hunting come fall. Big fish put on the feedbag to fatten up before a long cold winter. Muskies, walleye and pike are one the prowl and the cooler water temps put them in a biting mood.
