Charles Beck, The Nature of an Artist – Newly Released Book
Book launch with Author, Amy Sharpe held at Kaddatz Galleries
For over seven decades, Charles Beck interpreted the landscape of Minnesota through paintings, woodcuts and carved bird forms. His life as an artist has been beautifully documented and pictured in the newly released book, Charles Beck: The Nature of an Artist, by Amy Sharpe. A book launch with author Amy Sharpe will be held at the Kaddatz Galleries on Nov. 25 from 12- 2 PM. Sharpe will speak about her work at 1 PM.
Sharpe brings Beck’s artistic development to life as she chronicles his childhood, Concordia College days, Naval Air Corps experiences, and his decision to live life as an artist. Sharpe effectively describes Beck’s various types of artistic pursuits during his lifetime as well as his college teaching career and commitment to the area in which he lived and worked. Her liberal use of quotes from the artist and his contemporaries provide a unique insight into Beck’s character, his work ethic, and the vast amount of artwork he created. Beck’s respect for nature and the Western Minnesota landscape is integral to his story and is woven into the narrative spun by Sharpe. The 144 page hardcover book contains 150 color illustrations depicting Beck’s artistic career.
“Nature is all about us. The never-ending cycle of the seasons stimulates the senses. One must only look to experience the patterns, textures and colors of the land and sky, the hills and woods, the weeds and flowers. My hope is that in a small way I have helped open the eyes of others to this diversity, to this mystery.”
