Celebrating Your Big Day
By Heather Rule
If diamonds, dancing and décor are in your future, Fergus Falls offers sites and spaces for your sentimental journey. From beautiful event space with parquet dance floors, on-site lodging and mood lighting – to outdoor lakeside options, you’re sure to find just the spot to tie the knot.
The grand re-opening of the Bigwood Event Center in 2022 offers gorgeous and a more traditional wedding venue setting. With new carpeting, staging for your head table, seating for 400, a dance floor, and décor handled turn-key, this site is ideal for your big day. In detail, your event planning staff walks you through details, including catering options, local florists, entertainment, etc. Whatever you’ve been dreaming of, they can make a reality. Visit the website BigwoodEventCenter.com for contact information and date availability. Additionally, the Bigwood is connected to the Country Inn & Suites for convenient lodging options.
Pebble Lake Golf Course, located off Pebble Lake and Pebble Lake Road in Fergus Falls, also hosts wedding ceremonies and receptions. Guests can host an outdoor event (up to 450 people in rented tent space) or indoors (80-90 people). Jen Sternhagen, event coordinator at Pebble Lake Golf Course, arranges the details. Also, there is an on-site restaurant that handles your catering, and you may provide your own décor and Jen installs it, making your vision come to life.
Some guests chose to have their wedding ceremony AND reception at the golf course. “To easily have the ceremony and reception in one place and have it be so scenic, is unique to the golf course,”said Sternhagen.
For other venue ideas, the Visit Fergus Falls staff has a portfolio of sites. The National Guard Armory is currently under renovation but will be another popular spot in future years. We know you’re planning ahead!
The Trimmings
Once your venue and date are locked in, it’s time to tend to the trimmings – florists, caterers, music (live or DJ?), photographers – Fergus Falls offers several options for your event planning.
Florists like The Flower Mill is a great first-stop. Owner and floral designer Leanne Meis, will meet with you, in-person or remotely, if you live far away. Choose from fresh flowers or permanent flowers. Some couples come into the floral shop with photos of what they’re looking for in wedding flowers. The Flower Mill works side by side with them to help make that vision a reality. Other couples might come in with only their wedding colors, Meis said. However, The Flower Mill will walk couples through the process of creating something amazing for their wedding day.
Seeded Designs owner Alisha Asleson is another local florist specializing in wedding and event arrangements. From nosegay to elaborate sprays, she’ll work closely to make the day special.
Whether you like to handle all the details, or just share your vision and leave it up to the experts to pull together the moving parts. Fergus Falls is a beautiful destination and memorable for all the right reasons. Also, if you are in need of a diamond, our expert jewelers have many to choose from. They would be happy to help you design your forever-ring.
