Four Arts Learning Opportunities in April & May 2025
NEW YORK MILLS, MN, April 10, 2025—This spring, the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center is bursting with opportunities to spark your creativity! Join us for a variety of engaging workshops on April 12, April 23, May 3, and May 14 led by accomplished regional and visiting artists. From glass mosaics and barn quilts to metal stamping and creative writing, there’s something for everyone—no experience required.
Glass Mosaic Workshop with JoAnn McFarlin: Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 10:30 AM – 12:30 PM. Dive into the colorful world of glass-on-glass mosaics in this beginner-friendly class. Learn to cut glass, apply adhesive, and grout your own stunning 4” x 7” art piece—perfect to hang in your home or gift to someone special. Cost: $68 (members $65). All materials included. Class Size: 5–12 participants. Ages 16+.

Pop-Up Writing Workshop with Visiting Artist Alice Hatcher: Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Join visiting author Alice Hatcher for an inspiring evening of writing exploration and conversation. This informal workshop is designed to help writers at all levels find their voice. Bring your questions, your curiosity, and even your writing samples if you’d like. Free to attend & open to all! No registration is necessary; RSVP by calling 218-385-3339 to help with planning. Artist-in-Residence Alice Hatcher is a Tucson-based author whose debut novel The Wonder That Was Ours has garnered critical acclaim. Barn Quilt Workshop with Cindy Haffner: Saturday, May 3, 2025, from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Paint your own 2’ x 2’ barn quilt under the expert guidance of barn quilt artist Cindy Haffner. Choose from traditional patterns and bring a bit of folk art charm to your home, barn, or garden. Cost: $95 per person. All materials included. Class Size: 8–15 participants. All skill levels are welcome.

Stamped Metal Garden Markers Workshop with Cheryl Bannes: Wednesday, May 14, 2025, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Personalize your garden with a set of custom-stamped metal markers. Learn metal stamping techniques from Cheryl Bannes and create a charming set of durable, decorative plant labels. Cost: $25. All materials included. Class Size: 4–12 participants. Ages teen–adult.
