Look For The Currents!
I woke up yesterday morning to spooky oak tree lines against a dark Halloween sky and felt as though the end of our open water fishing was drawing near…
This morning I woke up and there was nearly 3 inches of snow on our yard here in lakes country! The end of open-water fishing is certainly close. November is here, the snow is here and our over night lows for the next week are in the 20’s. Not only does fishing become more difficult, but fishing on the open water in wind and waves in these conditions can be a bit raw.
Things have come full circle in Otter Tail Lakes Country. If you like to fish late-season walleye, find some currents either at a river mouth or inlet and fish from the bank our in waders. Cast light jigs and twisters or minnows or lipped diving baits (crank baits)—it’s simple bank fishing and there are plenty of walleye in the shallows and current areas to give enough action to provide a meal. Panfish are situated in deep holes and suspending over lake basins—in pre-winter fashion.
It’s time to start preparing for ice fishing season! And in-between our fishing seasons most outdoor’s lovers are keeping busy hunting. Duck and goose hunting has really taken off this week. The snowy windy weather has forced the migration and there’s no holding back. Find open water and harvested corn fields and mallards and geese will be near by. If you venture to Lakes Country for the MN firearms deer season that begins this weekend—good luck and be safe.
Enjoy all there is to do in Lakes Country this week!
