Fair Hills Resort May 2024 Newsletter
As always, we will begin the newsletter with the weather. May has been a very typical spring. Can you believe we’ve had some typical weather??!!? We’ve had both warm and chilly days, a lot of rain and plenty of sunshine. The grounds have greened up so nicely. Overall, a beautiful month. Nothing extreme, just pleasant spring weather!
2024 Opening
Fair Hills officially opened on May 10th with three day groups! It was a great way to open up the 2024 season. The following weekend we hosted our first overnight group of the year and a great time was had by all! Over Memorial Weekend we hosted our first wedding of the year and the 2nd Annual Pickleball Tournament. While Friday & Monday of the weekend was rainy and windy, Saturday & Sunday were perfect weather-wise and it was a perfect weekend.
The 2024 team started to arrive midway through May and more and more arrive daily! We are welcoming back many familiar faces and meeting new amazing people from across the country and around the world. We hope you get to meet them all this summer!
2nd Annual Pickleball Tournament
The 2024 tournament was so fun! The weather was just perfect for the clinics and tournaments and with over 40 picklers, it was a wild success! The weekend was chock full of dinking, cookies, flapjacks, attacks, falafels and bangers. You probably have to be a pickler to understand the previous sentence. In case you aren’t, just know the weekend was full of fun, friendly competition and lots of pickleball play.
Congratulations to our winners, Paul & Dustin!
We are going to do this again! Mark your calendars for Memorial Weekend 2025!

Farewell to Suzy
2024 will not be the same in the kitchen or dining room without the legendary Suzy Baker. After so many years, Suzy has moved on from her time at Fair Hills. Although Suzy’s time at Fair Hills might be over, her legacy will live on in many of the Fair Hills menu favorites. Please join us in extending our best wishes to Suzy on her next adventure!
Fair Hills Featured Video
This month’s featured video is all about the Big Pelican. One of May’s (literal) biggest tasks is to but the Big Pelican back in the lake. The video linked below is from 2011. Our process (and video skills) have improved since then, but ultimately, its the same process. Now we use Patrick Meyer’s tractor instead of an old fire truck. We are happy to report that the BP went in without issue and she is ready to sail again for summer 2024!

Birding
Did you know, due to the unique transition zone of three ecosystem located within Becker County, bird watchers can enjoy observing over 250 different species of birds! Birding is an excellent hobby to try out at Fair Hills.
One of our long-time guests, Nancy, recommended an app for your phone to help you bird while at Fair Hills. Merlin Bird ID is a free app you can download to your phone. One of the apps features allows you to record your surroundings and it will identify all the birds you hear. You can also explore information about common birds found in our area (all 250+!), as well as upload your own photos of birds you see. We’ve tried it out and it is pretty cool to be able to put bird names to the sounds you hear around the resort. If you have any interest in birds, we recommend you give the app a try this summer!
