Child Care Groundbreaking

Otter Tail County Commissioners and staff were excited to join PioneerCare, Fergus Falls Area Habitat for Humanity, City of Fergus Falls, and many other community partners at a groundbreaking for their Community Child Care Expansion Project on May 6. The project will bring 60-70 child care spots in three twin homes over the next three years. The County has provided project support and technical assistance, and we are grateful to the partners advancing this project to address child care needs in the Fergus Falls community.

Community Growth Partnership Grants
Grants for Local Projects
Otter Tail County’s Community Development Agency continues to invest in local progress through the Community Growth Partnership Grant, supporting projects aligned with four key priorities: Affordable Housing, Redevelopment, Commercial Rehabilitation, and Public Infrastructure. Recently, communities have leveraged funds for housing studies, commercial rehabilitation programs, and downtown exterior improvement projects, which all help position our cities for long-term growth and resilience.
These grants demonstrate how flexible, locally driven funding can spark meaningful change and build momentum across the county. If your community is exploring a project that aligns with these priorities, now is a great time to start the conversation.

Housing Success Spotlight

Local Housing Studies Drive Development
Communities across Otter Tail County are gaining data-driven insights from recently completed housing studies supported with matching grant funds from the Community Growth Partnership Grant. Cities are taking a closer look at their current housing stock, demographic trends, and future needs, which will help local leaders move beyond assumptions and plan with clarity. Findings in several communities reveal a common theme: the need for a diverse mix of housing types, including workforce housing, smaller entry-level homes, and options for senior housing.
These studies also highlight the importance of aligning housing development with local economic goals. In Perham, for example, continued job growth is driving demand for additional units across multiple income levels, while Pelican Rapids identified opportunities to reinvest in existing neighborhoods alongside new development.
Explore these studies to gain a deeper understanding of local housing needs and identify opportunities for collaboration and development.
