Art Returns to Your Park
Art Returns to Your Park
Another summer is in full swing, parents are wishing for school, and the Cultural Center in New York Mills offers a free summer program for children looking for something to do. Art In Your Park has been a successful community public art opportunity for the several summers and this year, the fun continues in area parks.
Pam Robinson, local New York Mills artist and Center volunteer, revived the New York Mills Art In Your Park program for the Cultural Center several years ago with the intention of bringing creative activities to children in their own neighborhood parks. Art In Your Park pairs ease of access, outside adventure, and artistic creation in a meaningful way for kids who like creative endeavors and the out-of-doors!
During summer 2017, Art In Your Park travels among all the parks in New York Mills, the Perham Public Library, the Cultural Center, and Sunnybrook Park in Wadena. Kids from all along the highway 10 corridor in northeastern Otter Tail County can easily join in.
Robinson passed the facilitator’s baton to Erika Leija, Gift Shop and Outreach Coordinator at the Center, and Marcie Peeters, recent New York Mills High School graduate and artist participant in this year’s Fish House Festival. We hope to have other high school volunteers continue to bring Art In Your Park to your park this summer.
All sessions are free to attend and all children of school age are welcome. Younger kids are welcome to attend with a parent or guardian.
