New York Mills, MN—September 12, 2022—The New York Mills Regional Cultural is pleased to present Live Flamenco Music and Dance on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 at 7:30 p.m. in the Cultural Center visual arts gallery space.
2017 McKnight Dancer Fellow Sachiko “La Chayí” invites audiences to join her Southern Spanish tablao-style Flamenco in which music, voice and movement harmonize and create vibrant and nuanced colors of emotions. The show features internationally recognized artists, singer Juan Pedro Jiménez (Cádiz, Spain & New York City) and guitarist Juanito Pascual (Minneapolis).
A native of Osaka, Japan, Sachiko “La Chayí” Nishiuchi is a Twin Cities-based Flamenco dancer, teacher, choreographer, and organizer. Besides her work as an independent artist, her current projects include an informal group, Twin Cities Flamenco Collective.
Juan Pedro Jiménez, a native of Cádiz in the South of Spain, was raised performing with the gypsy family Romeros de Vejer. A singer and guitarist, he studied music at the Royal Conservatory. He currently collaborates with NYC Flamenco artists and can be seen performing regularly in the Tri-State area.
Jonathan “Juanito” Pascual is an internationally recognized guitarist and “flamenco phenom” (The Boston Globe). His sound is a truly organic blend of masterful traditional and contemporary flamenco with influences ranging from Jimi Hendrix and the Grateful Dead to Miles Davis and J.S. Bach.
Colores Flamencos will take place on Wednesday October 12, 2022 at New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. Prior to this public performance, Sachiko will visit the New York Mills Public School to connect with local students and share a flamenco experience.
Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. Members get a $2 discount. Students $5. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with the performance beginning at 7:30. Light refreshments available. All are welcome!
Sachiko “La Chayí” is a fiscal year 2022 recipient of a Creative Support for Individuals grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
