Dog Day of Summer are here

By Dan Amundson, Sporting Journal Radio
Dog Days of Summer are here in Otter Tail County, MN. Hot weather sweeps across the Otter Tail Lakes Country region. While this weather is normally associated with poor fishing, that hasn’t been the case in lakes country.
Reports of walleyes being found in deeper water have been coming in, but others are still finding them shallower near weeds. Jigging raps, plastics and slow death rigs are staples for this time of year. Cover water to find fish, and don’t get to stubborn with fishing spots that you aren’t finding fish.
Trolling crankbaits at night is also really effective this time of year, especially on clear lakes. Since walleyes are sensitive to light, they tend to hang in weeds or go deep during the day, but at night they’ll slide shallow to feed.
Other anglers are having great success catching bass right now. Topwater frogs work great and are really fun to fish. Others are pitching jigs into pads and slop to find their fish.
Don’t let the warm temps scare you away from fishing! Anglers are doing well, and you can join them at Otter Tail Lakes Country. For more fishing tips visit https://ottertaillakescountry.com/interactive-map/?fwp_place_categories=fishing-hunting
