Kaddatz Seeks Art Work Exploring Mental Illness
The Kaddatz Galleries is seeking work from regional artists for a show about mental illness.
The gallery will display these works in the show “Impact: An Exploration of Mental Illness” from July 6-Aug. 1. It will be followed by a national traveling exhibit from the Society for Contemporary Craft, “Mindful: Exploring Mental Health Through Art,” on display at the Kaddatz and Lake Region Arts Council from Aug. 8-Oct. 7.
Mental illness accounts for a larger proportion of disability in developed counties than any other group of illnesses and continues to remain behind a wall of secrecy, leading to stigma, misunderstanding, and neglect. Regional artists are invited to submit work that explores the impact of mental illness either personally or within their community.
The Kaddatz and Lake Region Arts Council are teaming up with Springboard for the Arts, an economic and community development organization for artists, to bring the national exhibit to Fergus Falls.
Submissions for the local show are open to all ages and abilities and must be submitted by Sat., June 17 in person or at kaddatzgalleries.org. Artwork must be delivered to the gallery by Sat., July 1, finished and ready to display. A reception for participating artists will take place on Sat., July 15, 2-4 p.m.
The Kaddatz Galleries’ mission is to foster visual arts education and appreciation, and to maintain a gallery that celebrates the work of area artists and honors the legacy of Charles Beck. For more information, call 218-998-4405 or visit kaddatzgalleries.org. The gallery is in downtown Fergus Falls, 111 W. Lincoln Ave.
