Sue Nathe named Distinguished Member of MHIMA
Sue Nathe, health information management (HIM) manager at Tri-County Health Care, was named the 2018 Minnesota Health Information Management Association (MHIMA) Distinguished Member for her loyal service to the association. Candidates must have been an active member for five years or longer and made an outstanding contribution to the profession.
HIM is the process by which hospitals acquire and analyze a patient’s personal health information. One of Nathe’s crucial roles as HIM manager is to watch over that information, making sure it is protected, private and readily available to patients when needed.
Nathe has been an active member of MHIMA since 1997. She began her 16-year service history serving as Region D President from 2002-2007. Most notably, Nathe has been a voice for the HIM industry as a participant and chair of MHIMA’s advocacy committee. She has represented MHIMA at advocacy summits in Washington, D.C., for more than 10 years.
Nathe has held a variety of roles within the HIM profession throughout her career. She has served as a medical transcriptionist, medical coder, medical records supervisor and HIPAA privacy officer. She also served as adjunct faculty in the HIM program for Ridgewater College and was a member of the HIM Advisory Board from 2003-2014. She now sits on the M State Advisory Board.
“Sue is a tireless HIM advocate and ensures that we always prioritize the protection of the medical records in our possession,” said Kathy Waln, patient financial services director. “Sue stays current with the ever-changing technology and how it may affect access to and the release of our patients’ protected health information. We’re proud to have her represent TCHC at both the state and national level.”
Nathe will be honored at the MHIMA’s 2018 annual meeting on Thursday, April 26.
