Otter Tail County Featured on Fishing The Midwest TV
February 20, 2015
One of the longest running fishing shows on TV will feature Otter Tail County in this weekends episode. Episode #8 of Fishing The Midwest was filmed last fall on Otter Tail Lake. Erik Osberg is the producer of the program, he lives in nearby Wadena and he believes Otter Tail Lake and the surrounding area is hidden gem. “It is literally 27 miles from my back yard to one of the boat landings, I was very excited to when I found out we’d be filming on Otter Tail. Some of the best fishing of my life has come on that lake and I think it’s big enough to handle a little more fishing pressure. I also believe promoting the area is crucial to the local economies.”
Otter Tail is known for a good minnow and jig bite in the fall, but the Fishing The Midwest team wanted to try something different, so they spent the day pulling night crawlers on two hook harnesses behind bottom bouncers. Although their approach didn’t result in any BIG fish, it didn’t disappoint, they managed a dozen solid eating class walleyes. Erik added, “Anytime you film a fishing show, you run the risk of having the fish not cooperate. It was very windy & cold that day, but we got the fish we needed. We also feel like we were able to capture some of the natural beauty of the surrounding area.”
Fishing The Midwest airs on 11 different TV networks throughout the Midwest and can be seen here locally on KSTC-TV or Fox Sports North. The episode will air at 11:00am Saturday on Fox Sports North. Bob Jensen and Mike Frisch are the co-hosts of the program and both of them love the fishing the Otter Tail Lakes Country has to offer. They hope to be able to highlight the area in more episodes in the coming years. Whiskey Creek Media, the company that produces the TV show, is located in Wadena.
