The Skits and Tomfoolery Company show was formed in 2014 and has performed throughout the Fargo-Moorhead area. Klein has created a fresh and edgy take on the comedy show format. Always willing to accept a challenge and embark on creative adventures, Klein recently toured throughout the U.S. with Zoppe’s Family Circus. The earthen fort was constructed in July 1876 in response to rumors that American Indians were attacking homesteads and villages in the region. Even though no attack was imminent, Tordenskjold township pioneers chose to complete the fort for future protection. It was reportedly used for several nights a few years later following another rumor of impending Indian attack. The remains of the earthen barricade are still visible on this site. Additional information on historic Fort Juelson may be found at the Otter Tail County Historical Society in Fergus Falls.

Disgruntled Brewing Home to one grumpy head brewer and countless great beers. 180 miles north of the Twin Cities and 65 miles east of Fargo may look like a strange place to brew great beer at first blush, but tiny (Pop. 3,000) Perham MN is home to Disgruntled Brewing. And Disgruntled is all about brewing great world-class beer. One taste and you’ll know this is Midwest brewing at its finest—skilled, artful Midwest brewing. The kind of Midwest craft brewing that’s drawing attention worldwide. Beer-flavored water from St. Louis Missouri this is not. The Disgruntled Brewing formula is simple: Give our slightly-gruff, admittedly never-quite-satisfied head brewer the world’s best ingredients, then stand back and marvel as he produces one great beer after another. Ales. Lagers. Stouts. Wheat beers. Specialties. Seasonals. German. Belgian. Russian. This is craft brewing set in a beautiful part of the state—a destination well worth the trip—love at first taste.

In the Land of 10,000 Lakes we appreciate a good canoe trip, water-ski outing, or dip in the local swimming hole! But what of our water play in the frozen winter months? The Cultural Center in New York Mills has the answer to your winter H2O-cravings: a water media class! Learn lots of creative and interesting ways to use water in your artistic endeavors. Class launches at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, docking at 2:00 p.m. This gives participants plenty of time to dip their toes in before taking the plunge with water media. Says Center Education and Outreach Coordinator, Cheryl Bannes (also class instructor), “those in the heart of the lakes will find heart in this colorful use of water.” In the workshop, students use watercolor pencils, water-soluble oil pastels, watercolor crayons, and water-soluble graphite pencils and markers to draw and paint a simple landscape on watercolor paper. Focusing on media and technique, this lesson is for anyone interested in water media–not just landscape artists. This class is simple enough for beginners without watering-down the subject matter too much. Anyone above […]
